The bridgebuilder Foun­da­tion e.V., in coop­er­a­tion with the Kan­tor­ka Foun­da­tion, sup­port­ed a project to pro­mote sus­tain­able nutri­tion and rur­al devel­op­ment. The aim was to strength­en food secu­ri­ty, cre­ate income oppor­tu­ni­ties, and reduce youth migra­tion from rur­al areas by plant­i­ng fruit trees.

Objective

The project focused on empow­er­ing youth and dis­ad­van­taged groups in rur­al areas to counter rur­al-urban migra­tion. By plant­i­ng fruit trees, the project pro­mot­ed food secu­ri­ty, income gen­er­a­tion, envi­ron­men­tal aware­ness, and local education.

Implementation
  • 7,000 fruit tree seedlings were planted.

  • 8 tree nurs­eries were established.

  • 10 train­ing ses­sions on sus­tain­able agri­cul­ture, nutri­tion, and envi­ron­men­tal aware­ness were conducted.

  • 5 groups were direct­ly supported:

    • Mitume Youth Group (25 members)

    • Kuso­ma Women Group (30 members)

    • Liya­vo Envi­ron­ment Active Group (37 members)

    • Zan­di Mawe Group (30 members)

    • Binyenya Group (22 members)

In addi­tion, envi­ron­men­tal clubs were estab­lished, work­shops were held, and local seed exchanges were organized.
